Pandemic affected the lifestyle of everyone including children. No signs of school reopening in near future. Classes become online. Online classes eliminates possibility of walking to class rooms, running and sports in the ground. No games or sports. Parents used to rely on schools for physical exercise. An in the pandemic, parents are afraid to send kids outside even within the communities. This led to lack of exercise. After online classes kids don’t have anything to do. They resort to watching tv or playing video games. This increased screen time, reduced physical activity, and disturbed sleep pattern.

Added to this panic buying led accumulation of unhealthy foods at home – biscuits, chocolates, chips, soft drinks, noodles, cakes, sweets and ice creams. This increased intake of unhealthy foods.
Not going out for several days during and after lock down, not meeting friends led to increased stress and contribute to stress eating.

Increased eating of unhealthy foods, lack of exercise, disturbed sleep and increase screen time led to excess weight gain in children. Children who gain excess weight in childhood will carry these traits into adulthood. Obesity increases risk of other problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high blood fats.

Prevention of childhood obesity is better than struggling to lose weight later. Healthy diet and exercise play a major role in preventing childhood obesity.

Encourage your kids to go out and play. As long as social distance is maintained, it is safe.

If that is not possible make them do exercise at home for an
hour daily.
Simple exercises such as squats, jumping jacks, skipping ropes etc helps to stay fit.[/vc_column_text][stm_post_bottom tags=”show” share=”show”][stm_post_comments][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][stm_sidebar sidebar=”700″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
