Kids In Lockdown

During the lockdown, kids are forced to spend more time at home away from school and friends. They tend to spend more time in watching television or playing with smart phones and laptops. Increased screen time tends to delay the development of speech and language in kids. However, video calling is not considered as a part of the stipulated screen time.

Childhood obesity is a serious consequence of increased screen time, as binge watching also leads to binge eating. And there is no exercise while watching television or playing with gadgets. Same lifestyle leads to development of diabetes early in the age. Increased screen time also leads to headache, eye irritation and dryness.

However, it is not possible to stop screen time altogether. So parents can restrict screen time by fixing timings for watching television and for playing with gadgets. Set alarms for screen time. Encourage kids to read books. Parents can engage kids with other activities like drawing and painting. They can make them do exercises for a minimum of 1/2 hour to 1 hour at home.
Kids tend to irritate parents to get what they want. Parents should not lose temper. If parents yield, then irritating parents becomes a habit for kids. Be firm on the set rules and make kids understand that you don’t yield.
